Ederline, set in the heart of Argyll, is a working hill farm spanning around 13,000 acres of truly breathtaking scenery. Our family has been farming here and caring for this remarkable estate for over 125 years.

The landscape is a rich tapestry of ancient woodland, far-reaching moors, and sparkling hill lochs teeming with wild brown trout. A network of lively burns and rugged rocky outcrops add drama and beauty to this wild and unspoiled corner of Argyll.

Our traditional flocks of Blackface sheep and herds of Luing-cross cattle graze across vast expanses. With the help of skilled sheepdogs, our team gathers in the sheep throughout the year for clipping, tupping, lambing, and routine care. For those who love the hills, watching — or even joining in — the great “Gathering” is a wonderful sight and experience. Clipping takes place in July and August and is always a lively event to witness.

Ederline is also a haven for wildlife. Ospreys visit the lower lochs and White-tailed Eagles frequently float by. The Golden Eagles nest high in the hills above the cottages and are regularly seen from the boat house.  Red and Roe deer are often seen grazing near the cottages, and we’re delighted to have a growing population of red squirrels, which regularly appear at cottage bird tables. The estate has excellent fishing in the hill lochs and on Loch Ederline.

By prior arrangement, guests can also enjoy a peaceful picnic at the Boat House beside the upper hill loch — a perfect hideaway about three and a half miles from the cottages, accessible either on foot or by 4×4.
