Long days on the estate
June is one of the best times to experience Ederline Estate. With some of the longest days of the year, guests have more time to enjoy the loch, explore the grounds, and spend evenings outdoors.
The late sunsets make a big difference this time of year. Even after dinner, there’s still plenty of daylight for a walk, fishing on the loch, or simply sitting outside and enjoying the view. Every cottage has its own BBQ, making outdoor dining an easy part of a summer stay at Ederline.
Fishing season is well underway, with calm evenings on Loch Ederline and our hill lochs often becoming a highlight for guests staying on the estate. Paddle boards and kayaks are also available to hire, offering a different way to explore the water and take in the surrounding scenery at a slower pace.
June also marks the start of the deer stalking season. Our deer manager, Rob, is on the estate throughout the season managing the local deer population and guiding stalking outings across the hills surrounding Ederline. It’s an important part of the estate calendar and of maintaining the balance of the landscape and wildlife here in Argyll.
For those looking to venture beyond the estate, Ederline is perfectly placed for exploring some of Argyll’s best attractions. The nearby Crinan Canal, often known as “Britain’s most beautiful shortcut”, stretches for nine miles through the heart of Knapdale. Opened in 1801, it was built to provide a safer route for vessels travelling between the Clyde and Scotland’s west coast. Today, its peaceful towpaths, locks and waterside scenery make it a popular destination for walking, cycling and picnics, with bike hire available nearby for those wishing to explore the canal and surrounding countryside on two wheels.
Visitors can also take to the water with Crinan Classic Charters, offering opportunities to explore the coastline, spot wildlife and discover hidden corners of the west coast that are only accessible by boat. Their traditio
nal wooden vessel provides a unique way to experience the area’s rich maritime heritage, while seals, seabirds and dolphins are regularly seen in the surrounding waters during the summer months. If you’re lucky, you may even spot a pod of orcas.
Several beautiful islands are within easy reach for a day trip. Gigha is renowned for its white sandy beaches, turquoise waters and the exotic plant collections of Achamore Gardens, while Jura offers dramatic landscapes, abundant wildlife and a chance to visit one of Scotland’s most famous whisky distilleries. For those willing to travel a little further, Mull and Iona provide unforgettable coastal scenery, wildlife encounters and some of Scotland’s most iconic island landscapes.
June offers the perfect opportunity to experience everything Ederline Estate and the surrounding area have to offer, from island adventures and coastal wildlife to peaceful evenings by the loch.
